Throughout America’s history, until very recently in fact, the virtues which made America an exceptional nation were compassion, justice and faith. These virtues were reserved for the people, with the church guiding the manners of the community. It was an essential tenet of American character that those with the means had an obligation, a moral imperative, to assist those less fortunate. Yet it was understood that it was destructive to the human soul and an individual’s self-respect to simply give charity without condition, that charitable works were not charity at all if it left the receiver dependent on alms, a slave to handouts. True charity offers a hand up.
Justice was based on Biblical canon and the Ten Commandments. Faith was placed in God, not government. Somewhere along the way, these three virtues have been usurped by government, either by design or default. Compassion has been replaced by welfare and food stamps. Justice has transcended into the immoral and confiscatory notion of “social justice”, which simply takes from one to give to another, further sapping the vitality and spirit of the nation. Because the church in America has retreated behind closed doors and has, for the most part, abandoned it Great Commission, society increasingly places its faith in government, not God, to cure the ills of the community. America is slowly turning into a nation of slaves.
Common Ground America is not simply a political organization. A critical component of CGA is its Spiritual Branch, which is chartered with reigniting the innate compassion of the American people, eliminating the need for excess government compassion that stifles the innovation and spirit which have always been a vital force in America’s life and soul.
